Irma Thomasの新譜  ニューオーリンズ


アーマが2年ぶりの新譜を出しました。
結構気に入って聴いてます。

mixiに紹介文を書いたので、ここにも貼っておきます。おすすめです!

IRMA THOMAS / SIMPLY GRAND (Decca/Rounder 478 1068)
アーマ・トーマス、2年ぶりの新作だ。全曲にクレジットされた有名ゲストとgrand(華々しい)というタイトルから、派手な内容を想像してしまったが、実際は無駄をそぎ落としたようなシンプルな内容となっている。

ゲストは全てピアニスト。grandはグランド・ピアノの意味から付けられているのだろう。ドクター・ジョン、デヴィッド・トカノウスキー、ジョン・クリアリー、ヘンリー・バトラーなどニューオーリンズ系でおなじみの人たちから、ノラ・ジョーンズ、ジョン・メデスキー、ランディ・ニューマンまで多彩な顔ぶれが並ぶが、ゲストとは言ってもデュエットなど派手な演出はなく、いずれもアーマのバックを付けるのに徹している。

ドクター・ジョン、マーシャ・ボールなどいくつかのトラックは、アーマの歌とピアノのみのシンプルな編成。ブルース、ソウルの原点に帰ったような内容に思わず顔がほころぶ。暫く愛聴盤になりそうだ。
