インペリアルのレコーディングの完全CD化だ。ファンとしては随分待たされたという感じだが、2003年奇しくもアールが亡くなった直後に遂に出た。未発表トラックも含めた完全版で、レコーディングされた順に収録されている。

50年代にサヴォイ、スペシャルティー、エイスと渡り歩いたアールが次に在籍したのがこのインペリアル。ここでは、ジミ・ヘンドリックスにカバーされた3.、ニューオーリンズを代表する曲とも言える12.などなど、重要曲が生まれている。デイヴ・バーソロミューのプロデュースによる全体のサウンドもファンキーで、エイス時代とは一味違う。アールを聴くならば、やはりインペリアルは外せないのだ。

尚、ここに収録されたトラックは全てモノラル版。「Crescent City Bounce」に収録されたトラックは同じテイクだがステレオ版（ボーカルを片方に振った疑似ステレオ）で、聴き比べるとかなり雰囲気が違うことに気がつく。個人的にはモノラルの方が、音にインパクトがあってよいと思う。
