LONG BEACH BLUES FESTIVAL
1990

This year was one of the best I saw. An earthshaking set by Johnny Winter to cap it off on Saturday, and an amazing Stormy Monday Blues jam at the end of Sunday by all the artists appeared that day.The artists played in that jam include Anson Funderburgh, Roy Guitar Gaines, Etta James, Yank Rachell, Albert Collins, and Otis Rush.

James "Yank" Rachell, though his voice was not so good anymore, played that distinctive mandolin that I had been hearing on Sleepy John Estes' records for years. He had been Estes' partner for more than 40 years. Unfortunately, the legendary player died on April, 1997.Though I miss him, I can say that I was lucky to have seen him perform.

Other performers this year include Little Milton, Ruth Brown, and Harmonica Fats who all were equally good.
